At Fermilab, Geant4 is available in kits up to the version v4_9_2_p01.
Currently, Geant4 at Fermilab is supported on the Linux platform only.
We support Geant4 for both Scientific Linux 3 Scientific Linux 4.
For SL3, it's build in the flavor Linux+2.4-2.3.2 with the gcc-3.4.3 compiler.
For SL4, we use the "generic" flavor Linux+2.6 and the default compiler g77 or gcc-4.3.2.
Both builds are available in ups/upd and in the AFS disk space (fnalu).
Recently, we have also decided to add a build for 64-bit architecture, at the SL4 platform (qualifier 64bit-OpenGL is subject to change).
The libraries were built with VRML and OpenGL visualization options.
Enabling OpenGL-based option requires setting additional environment variables (see example); otherwise, the built will behave as "no-OpenGL".
To setup the product, please following the instructions below.
For the Scientific Linux 3 use:
setup geant4 v4_9_2_p01 -q GCC_3_4_3-OpenGL -f Linux+2.4-2.3.2
For Scientific Linux 4 please use either:
setup geant4 v4_9_2_p01 -q g77-OpenGL setup geant4 v4_9_2_p01 -q GCC_4_3_2-OpenGL
The Geant4 v4_9_2_p01 has been built with the CLHEP v2_0_4_2.
Please note that the setup procedure will automatically take care of all essential environment variables for both Geant4 and CLHEP packages and of the correct version of the gcc compiler. Please use command ups list -a geant4 to find out about other Geant4 releases available at Fermilab.
ATTENTION users of the ILC/SiD simulation packages on ilcsim.fnal.gov ! On the ilcsim.fnal.gov cluster selected versions of Geant4 are available in kits.
Please address your questions to the ilcsim.fnal.gov administrators
